The new
Ethiopian passport

Produced by TOPPAN Security Ethiopia. Aligned with the national digital transformation strategy of Ethiopia, the new biometric e-passport for Ethiopian citizens replaces the previous machine-readable passports, enabling a more robust, in-country government security solution.

the
opportunity

In today’s interconnected world, biometric ICAO-compliant e-passports are essential for national security and seamless international travel. By localizing passport production and assembly in-country, Ethiopia would enhance its self-reliance and supply chain resilience. As Ethiopia’s first private-public partnership, TOPPAN Security Ethiopia is proud to contribute to this national initiative.

the
journey

To align at every step of the way with Ethiopia’s government security and logistical requirements, TOPPAN Security Ethiopia collaborated and consulted closely with key national stakeholders including Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS) and Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH).

Inspired by Ethiopia’s deep-rooted traditions and vibrant diversity, the ePassports showcase the nation’s unique identity to the world. National symbols embedded within the design reflect Ethiopia’s historical and cultural significance, celebrating its heritage and conveying pride and authenticity to all who carry them.

Our
product

Meet Ethiopia’s first ever e-passport, equipped with a microchip that securely stores citizen data and biometric information. This is also the world’s first passport that incorporates a dynamic gold foil on the cover, offering enhanced security and visual cultural distinction.
